European Standardization Commission issued 《EN 12868: 2017》 to regulate the release of nitrosamines and nitroso substances from elastomers or rubber nipples and pacifiers. The national standards that are contrary to this will be revoked in July 2017 at the latest. This standard is used to determine the nitrosamines and nitroso substances released from elastomers or rubber pacifiers in contact with artificial saliva salt solutions, to test compliance with Directive 93/11 / EEC.

Major changes in the 2017 version of the standard include:
• new terms and definitions, "nitrosamines" and "ready-to-use products" have been added and a number of terms and definitions have been revised to make them clearer;
• pre-boiling and migration steps are separated to determine nitrosamines and nitroso substances;
• Revise the sampling procedure, for example, by specifying a minimum amount of elastomer or rubber sample for testing;
• Develop nitrite temperature;
• N-nitrosodiisobutylamine (NDiBA) is incorporated into the identifiable nitrosamines in the pacifier and undergo two migration tests and two determinations for testing and calibration standards.
