Comparison of cytotoxicity results of chlorinated water samples from CNW Poly-Sery HLB Pro SPE column based on Water and CNW SPE column solid pha

Chlorine disinfection is a commonly used disinfection method widely used for treating drinking water and recycled water. However many disinfection by-products (DBPs) are produced during the chlorine disinfection process, with over 700 DBPs reported so far. Due to the wide variety of DBPs and the inability of existing detection methods toanalyze all DBPs in water, using cytotoxicity testing to evaluate the comprehensive toxicity of water samples can efectively reflect the potential risks that water may pose to humans. However, the concentration of DBPs in water samples is relatively low, and generally requires solid-phase extraction enrichment before toxicity testing .Therefore, the enrichment ability of solid-phase extraction columns foldisinfection by-products is crucial. At present, the commonly used solid-phase extraction columnin toxicity evaluation experiments is Waters' OASIS HLB columnIn this experiment, we will use Waters and CNW HLB columns forsolid-phase extraction of the same chorine disinfected watersample, and compare the toxicity test results.
By calculation, the cytotoxicity of Cl,C2,C3 and Wl.W2.W3enriched with chlorine disinfectant water was measured to be 9.03 ± 0.4110.29 +0.15,10.49 +0.11,respectively 9.27+0.50,9.95 ± 0.29,9.29± 0.29 mg phenol/L. Single factor analysis of variance was used toanalyze two sets of data, and p=0.44>0.05 was obtained. Therefore. therewas no significant difference in the cytotoxicity of the organiccompounds enriched by the two SPE columns.
Although there was no significantdifference in the cytotoxicity oforganic compounds obtained bySPEenrichment between NWandWaters, we found in the experiment that the organic compounds eluted byCNW were more turbid during the dissolution of the culture mediumcompared to Waters (Figure 3a), which may indicate differences in thecomponents enriched by the two small columns.
Therefore, our conclusion is that there may be diferences in thecomponents enriched by solid-phase extraction of chlorine disinfectedwater samples using Waters and CNW HLB columns, but there is nosignificant difference in overall cytotoxicity.
