Determination of 13 Polybrominated Biphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) in Water Using Solid-Phase Extraction and Gas Chromatography

Key words:polybrominated diphenyl ethers; gas chromatography; solid phase extraction; water sample
Details
Abstract:A solid-phase extraction and gas chromatographic method was established to simultaneously determine 13 Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers in water. Water samples were enriched by the Florida silica (Florisil) solid phase column, with 2ml n-hexane and 5 mL n-hexane: methylene chloride (V∶V=8∶2) elution, The analytes were separated on a HP-5 capillary column and analysis with GC/uECD. The results show that in three added level(0.05、0.25、0.5 μg/L), the average recovery of 13 PBDEs were determined to be in the range of 67.9%~121.5%,the RSD were 2.5%~12.3%,while that of the BDE-209 was were determined to be in the range of 67.9%~71.9%; the RSD was 5.2%~8.0%.
The detection limit of BDE-209 was 1.2 ng/L,while that of the other 12 PBDEs were in the range of 0.11~0.5 ng/L. With high sensitivity and good reproducibility and recovery, this method can be used well for the analysis of PBDEs in environmental samples.
